I DID NOT KNOW IT AT THE TIME BUT I WAS IN A DOWNWARD SPIRAL
It was 2006, almost a year when I first met both of you at the Prometheum institute. It was at the direction of my lawyer that I came to see you. He had told me that doing so, could help me and my case.
I did not know it at the time, but I was in a downward spiral. I had been drinking too much, for too long. In retrospect, being pulled over and charged by the police was a blessing in disguise. At first, I was somewhat skeptical of counseling and had yet to accept that I needed more than a report in my defense. You did, however, capture my full attention from the onset and I decided to keep an open mind.
In the beginning of the program, you asked me many questions about my upbringing and my life at that time. It was an eye-opener for me because in addressing those questions I realized things about myself that I had not stopped to consider in the past. Some of what I learned about myself was in fact, emotionally immature. I had not acknowledged it before, chose not to, or just didn’t care.
Over course of the weeks and months that followed, you introduced me to valuable principles and lessons of life. In our sessions, the “Self discovery/recovery” DVD tutorials, books, and films that you assigned, the principals and lessons were repeated to the point that they became entrenched in my mind. I looked very closely into my reflection and I was able to see how they bared true in my own life. With his new perspective I was able to develop my own mental tool box to which I refer when feeling down or overwhelmed.
As you know, I pleaded guilty to my change. Given my past record, the outcome was fair. I appreciate the extensive report that you wrote. As I understand, my lawyer referred to it in discussion with the Crown that gives me another chance to better my life. I am in a positive frame of mind and I attribute that to your guidance helped me to change my life!. Thank you very much.
