Andrea de Goias is an internationally qualified addictions counsellor (ICADC). In addition, her undergraduate education is in the Fine Arts. Her knowledge and experience in cinematographic arts allow her to use cinema as real-life experiences to guide clients to analyze emotional variations and behavioural states objectively. She creates explanations that allow the viewer to understand and appreciate the director as an artist attempting to reveal an emotion.

Her use of pertinent movies in therapy allows her to exemplify Gertrude Stein's conviction that, "We all fear death and question our place in the universe. The artist's job is not to succumb to despair, but to find an antedote for the emptiness of existence." She has compiled a list of books to augment therapy, not as training to recovery, but to expand clients' ability to interpret the author's subtle or overt message. She has developed and integrated the use of classical music and art, that shows clients how to interpret the artist's moods and messages. As Beethoven said, "A composer does not play what the audience wants; he takes the audience on a journey". Her contribution thus allows clients to learn to expand your appreciation of life using an eclectic range of media and options.
